John and Dig Clarke Fund
The Martell Family Fund
James Fenwick Acorn Fund
John Cuthbert Family Fund
Professor John Clarke is a well-known figure in County Durham and has been involved with County Durham Foundation for a number of years. He is currently chair of our Grants Committee.
After hearing about Acorn Funds, John and his daughters Anna, Gemma and Lucy (pictured below L-R with John) decided to set up a family Acorn Fund as a way of giving back to the local community.
John told us why he thinks Acorn Funds are a good idea:
"I have been involved with County Durham Foundation from its beginning and am devoted to its cause. Acorn Funds are a very good way of giving back to the community, they are ongoing and eventually provide a sizeable sum."
John and his daughters have decided that the income from the John and Dig Clarke Acorn Fund will initially contribute to County Durham Foundation's Community Action fund, which supports a variety of projects and causes according to greatest community need.
“We think that Acorn Funds are a great way to build up lasting support from modest beginnings.”
Andrew Martell is a well-known figure in County Durham, and has been a member of County Durham Foundation's board for many years and his wife Shelagh is on the Shotley Park Fund committee.
Andrew and Shelagh set up the very first Acorn Fund with us as this was an ideal way for them to build up their own fund and be able to give back to the community where their family has lived and worked for generations.
Andrew and Shelagh have decided that the income from the Martell Family Fund will initially support projects helping children and young people.
