Young People And Education How You Can Help

County Durham Foundation would like to help more groups working with young people to achieve their true potential. In order to do this, we need to raise significant funding to meet the challenges ahead.

We are encouraging people to:

If you wish to contribute towards our Young People and Education Fund, we will support the following:

  1. Grants to groups and projects: Voluntary sector organisations, charities, schools, further education colleges and other agencies working directly with disadvantaged young people (aged up to 25) for non-statutory activity that will:

Pilot innovative new schemes that tangibly improve young peoples lives and expectations, helping them to:

    • Be healthy.
    • Access more education and learning, particularly encouraging marginalised or disengaged young people to get involved in activities that will improve self-esteem, help them to achieve, offer new opportunities and experiences whilst increasing their aspirations.
    • Become an active citizen and make a positive contribution to society.
    • Stay safe and avoid harm.

Demonstrate active learning from the pilot that can be applied elsewhere and have an idea of how to achieve this.

Achieve a multi-agency approach to their work.

  1. Grants to individuals: A bursary programme to support young people from a disadvantaged background and low-income families:
    • To attend further education or to access learning opportunities.
    • To further an exceptional talent or skill.
  2. We will also set up a new Young Ventures Team, to offer mentoring and support to groups. We are looking to recruit a team of entrepreneurs and business people to give their time and a small amount of money to work together over a 12-month period with 3 individual organisations of their choice. They will review the organisations development and give advice and guidance on how it can become more successful, and in particular more sustainable. County Durham Foundation will use the information gained during this process to provide case studies and lessons learned for other organisations and stakeholder agencies.
