About Us
County Durham Foundation is a community foundation - we allow you to decide what happens to your money and how it is spent, unlike when you donate to other charities.

If you decide to become a County Durham Foundation fund holder we can set up your fund with the minimum of bureaucracy, fuss and cost to yourself.
As a fund holder you can have as much or as little say in how your fund is used as you wish including making the decisions over who to support. With the added security of knowing that each grant given is backed up by a detailed seven-stage assessment process delivered by us to you, using our professional expertise and knowledge of the local community to ensure that your support only goes to those that really need it.
To make a real difference, it's easy to set up your own fund, either in your life-time or by leaving a legacy. You can have:
- an endowment fund, where we invest your money using an expert investment manager to generate an annual income, which is then distributed in grants.
- a revenue fund, where we give one-off support to specific good causes.
- or a combination of both the above.

Who to support
As a fund holder you can choose to support to any charitable, benevolent or philanthropic cause. You can also support individuals as well as groups or projects (they do not have to be a registered charity). It’s also easy to change annually what you wish to support without the lengthy or costly legal work this would involve if you set up your own trust.
Seventy fund holders now use our professional knowledge and expertise to make a real difference to the people they care about locally. Click here for a list of all our fund holders.
