Our Accessibility Statement

This is the accessibility statement for www.CountyDurhamFoundation.co.uk

County Durham Foundation are aware that accessibility to all users including the disabled is an important factor of providing a website.

Below you will find accessibility features and validation implemented into our website.

Note: While our target for the website is to maintain full accessibility, few pages may not conform to maximum standards.

Accessibility FeaturesBack to the top

The following are accessibility and validation features implemented on the site for ease of use by the disabled and users with varying browsers

Navigation
At the side of every page, there is a navigation bar for quickly finding your way around the site, the most major of navigation objects comes with an access key which can be found below.

Users can also use the TAB key to cycle through links to select them using the keyboard. The link can be activated by pressing the ENTER key.
All navigation sections are arranged as lists and so the number of sections in the list is read out via screen readers.

Access Keys
Back to the top Every page on the website as been given the accesskey feature, this allows the users to navigate the site without much use of the mouse.
Using windows (Internet Explorer, Netscape etc) access keys are used by pressing ALT + the access key.
For Macintosh systems access keys are used by pressing CTRL + the access key. Once the appropriate link has been selected, press the enter key to activate the link.

Access keys on this website are as follows:

1:  About Us
2:  Making A Difference
3:  Ways To Give
4:  Apply For A Grant
5:  Professional Advisors
6:  Foundation News
7:  Campaigns

The access keys used on this website avoid conflict with windows shortcuts.

Images
All images on the website are complete with full descriptive ALT tags, meaning all images will display an 'alternative text' if the image is unavailable. Images with decorative/design purposes contain empty ALT tags.

Font
Back to the top Font sizes can be altered using the JavaScript feature below. The feature wil store your new text size in a file on your computer called a Cookie. This will remember your settings for any future visits.

Is this text too small for you?

Resize it by clicking an option below:

Decrease Text Size.Default Text size.Increase Text Size

Style Sheets
This website uses External Style Sheets to manage the look and feel of the website.
In the event that a browser does not support the CSS, the site will still be readable with little effect to the layout.

Tables
All tables have a summary for screen readers. Tables are used in some cases to align image links.

JavaScript
Back to the top JavaScript is used on the website for visual aid (Font resizing) although the site can be used without scripts.
In the event that the script is not available, a 'no script' feature will tell the user the feature is unavailable.

Hyperlinks
All links have been written to make sense when read out of context.
This means that it is clear what will happen and where the link will take you.

Navigation Aids
For larger pages containing more information, navigation aids have been added to jump to points elsewhere on the page. For examplr: 'back to top'
